Health or Happiness?
Apr. 18th, 2009 03:33 pmI was talking with my Mom the other day, and she said all she wants for us is to be healthy and happy. Healthy first, then happy. I know she wants both for us, and it's a sweet sentiment, but the choice of which to bestow upon us if only one were possible got me thinking.
Which would make for a better life if you can only grant one: Health or Happiness.
I have no major health issues to deal with, so my perspective may be off, but it seems to me I'd rather be unhealthy and happy. To be able to see the joy in life, even struggling with a physical ailment.
Would it be a better life to be in perfect physical health, but be unhappy? I wouldn't want to be stuck feeling bitter, angry, depressed, for years on end (and I'd live a long miserable life if I were healthy, wouldn't I.).
Joy is too important.
I'll choose happiness and health for as long as possible, but I sure don't want to lose my hold on the happiness if something has to slip.
