Change of Plans
Apr. 16th, 2010 10:57 pmToday we irrigated for the second time, so I planned to post some neat pictures we took two weeks ago from the first time we irrigated.
That was before C ran in to tell me that peacocks run fast and have long tails. By the time I got to the backyard the dogs had cornered it and were tearing off lots of it's long fan feathers (which I discovered were not it's actual tail feathers - those are shorter, fatter, and fairly plain looking). I never realized just how many fan feathers one peacock has (some of these were longer than S is tall). I thought it was already dead as I approached it, but it was still alive - unfortunately it died about twenty minutes later. Our neighbor (the one with all the birds) said it probably died from stress rather than any injury it sustained from the dogs.
It turns out our neighbor thinks it was one of his he had given to a petting zoo down the road a couple of years ago. Since they wouldn't want the body I dug a very large hole and buried it under one of our orange trees. Since they wouldn't want the feathers we now have way more peacock feathers than I know what to do with. I think I'll bring some to the next gamer day.
Today I learned far more about peacocks than I ever realized there was to know.
