What does it mean.

Yesterday C was done eating some rice on a small plate. I told him he could put it on the ground for the dog. He promptly dumped the rice on the floor. Oops, I meant put the plate on the ground, so the dog could eat the rice off the plate. Poor communication on my part. Oh well :-)
