Strawberries
Feb. 17th, 2010 01:02 amI bought a half flat of strawberries yesterday, and while they will never taste as good as fresh California strawberries purchased at a farmers market during strawberry season, according to S and C, "they weren't too bad." I brought the strawberries home about 6 hours ago and the entire half flat has already been demolished. Most were eaten plain, but we also had strawberry banana milkshakes, and some chocolate dipped ones.
One of my favorite parts of having chickens is when I have a huge batch of strawberries, and instead of having to throw out a big pile of strawberry scraps (you know, the green leafy bits with a bit of the strawberry attached when you cut them off), I get to collect them together as a huge treat for the chickens. About the only thing better is when I can pick the bird pecked tomatoes and toss them over the fence into the chickens yard - that way at least someone besides the wild birds gets to enjoy them.
Anyway, my kids love strawberries and the half flat only cost $3.99 :-).
