A note to new readers.
Mar. 18th, 2014 10:55 amMy blog isn't always about animals, really. It is about our lives, however, and our lives have been fairly animal focused lately, since we have recently had an unusual influx of small, cute creatures into our home.
Besides, sometimes it is easier to just throw up a photo, than try to string words together in an intelligible fashion. I've been at this whole livejournal thing for a lot of years now. I find it a more satisfying format than Facebook (where many of the writers of the journals I used to read have wandered off to over the past several years - I'm not bitter ;-), really I'm not), and I intend to keep at it as long as livejournal sticks around.
It's more for me and my failing memory, than anything else, but it's fun that some folks out there enjoy reading it besides me.
So welcome aboard, and I promise I will wander into other topics besides puppies and goslings (though puppies! and goslings! - I could be obsessed with something much worse, I suppose).

Do you plan on having grown up geese around?

Date: 2014-03-20 08:14 pm (UTC)We are definitely keeping the geese as adults. I got two males and 4 females. We are keeping them in the house as long as possible, in the hopes that they will like us as adults. We got two geese from a neighbor about 4 years ago, and I made the mistake of transitioning them too soon. I don't think they ever quite forgave me. The female got killed by a neighbor a few months ago - right before egg season. The male is doing okay, since he is attached to my daughters and has the ducks and chickens and horses to keep him company when we are not around.
Lots of people have backyard chickens (some with less space will keep bantams), but the rules for whether you can legally keep them varies from city to city. - and if you have a HOA, they are probably out of the question. Google "backyard chicken" if you want to be overwhelmed by the amount of info out there on keeping chickens :).

Date: 2014-03-23 10:40 am (UTC)I do have an HOA :P I love googling backyard chickens. Fun to imagine, if only that. There is a really fun portable 2 story chicken house in town that I see from time to time. It totally makes me think "I could do that -- it would fit on our patio."
Now I simply must try insert photo. Thanks for the tip.
