Goslings Vs Goslings.
Mar. 18th, 2014 10:38 amThe goslings were one week old yesterday. I took them outside and took a few pictures to commemorate the milestone. The pictures are still on my camera, so I don't know when they will get posted (though, I expect a look how much the goslings have grown in the past few weeks post will be in order one of these days).
In the meantime, here is a photo from the first day, when the goslings were all snuggled in for the night in the pet carrier we have been using as home base for them.

Oddly, having six goslings has proved easier in a lot of ways, than when we had two, four years ago. There are some obvious differences that could account for the seeming difference in difficulty - Speedy and Wobbles were ours from hatching day, so they became very attached (probably imprinted to some extent). I had less experience, and was very busy with moving to the new house, still packing up the old house, dealing with younger kids, so I may have felt like they were harder to deal with just because of everything else surrounding me at the time.
One major difference, that seems bird specific, is Speedy and Wobbles cried for us at night (being sleep deprived can really sour ones outlook), something the six goslings haven't seemed inclined to do. The six are pretty happy as longs as they can snuggle in with each other. Occasionally they cry out during the day and need some reassuring - and yesterday when I had them outside they followed me around if I got too far away - but that is nothing compared to the singing and calming and 2am attention that Speedy and Wobbles required.
